Appelé aussi "favori", le signet a plusieurs fonctions: (a) Le signet permet de conserver l’adresse d’un site web dans un répertoire dédié du navigateur. (b) Le signet permet de marquer la page d’un livre numérique dans un logiciel de lecture. (c) Sur un site web, une section appelée "signets" rassemble une sélection d’autres sites web sur des sujets connexes. Par exemple, les Signets de la Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) "proposent une sélection commentée de ressources accessibles par Internet, choisies par les bibliothécaires de la BnF".
